A visual representation of the 500-meter (1,640 ft) tall parallel structures was released by Saudi’s NEOM on July 26th, 2022, showcasing the city’s location within the Red Sea megacity of NEOM.

OCEANIX Busan is the pioneer prototype of a robust and environmentally friendly floating community, paving the way for future advancements to address the challenges faced by coastal cities facing sea level rise. It consists of interconnected neighborhoods, totaling 6.3 hectares (15.5 acres), with the capacity to house a population of 12,000 individuals. Each neighborhood has been designed to fulfill a specific function – residential, research, and hospitality.

Amaravati New Capital

Upon completion, Amaravati is poised to not only be the new capital of Andhra Pradesh but also one of the most eco-friendly cities in the world. The heart of the city will feature a green spine, inspired by Central Park, that measures 5.5 kilometers in length and 1 kilometer in width. This project is led by British architectural firm Foster + Partners.

The buildings in Amaravati will be powered by rooftop solar panels, while transportation options will include cycling routes, electric vehicles, and water taxis. The city will also have an irrigation system that utilizes recycled water, and shaded streets that will promote walking. The estimated cost of the project is $6.5 billion, according to the Andhra Pradesh authorities.

 

Egypt's New Administrative Capital Rises

A grand and imperial new administrative capital is being built in Egypt, just outside Cairo, at an estimated cost of $59 billion. The capital embodies the ambitions of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and showcases his status as the country’s unchallenged ruler. It encompasses Africa’s tallest building, a crystal pyramid, and a vast palace for el-Sisi, inspired by ancient Egyptian sun god symbols. This project is part of a series of megaprojects aimed at reshaping Egypt, including eight-lane highways, giant bridges spanning the Nile, and a new summer capital near Alexandria.
